Full Day Kindergarten/Extended Day - Submission to The Honourable Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance

Excerpt: "While full day kindergarten is a policy milestone, on schedule to serve over 260,000 four- and five-year-olds, unfortunately our government stopped short of implementing the bold vision for school operated early learning and care described in With Our Best Future In Mind. Fewer than 20 per cent of 遙ぺ整氈窒s children 12-years and younger have access to regulated care. The dearth of safe, affordable child care options literally endangers childrens lives, curtails parents work opportunities and costs the economy in work/family conflicts. As currently organized, child care creates a low wage sector reliant on social transfers."

Responses to Child Care Modernization Act

On December 3, 2013, the 遙ぺ整氈窒 government introduced the Child Care Modernization Act, to "take steps to strenghthen oversight of the province's unlicensed child care sector while increasing access to licensed child care options for families."

遙ぺ整氈窒 is taking steps to strengthen oversight of the province's unlicensed child care sector while increasing access to licensed child care options for families. The Child Care Modernization Act, to be introduced December 3, would allow the province to immediately shut down a child care provider when a child's safety is at risk.

The third Nordic ECEC conference Approaches in Nordic ECEC research: Current research and new perspectives was held in Oslo 11-12 November 2013. 遙ぺ整氈窒 80 policy makers and researchers from the Nordic countries participated actively in presentations and workshops on the three conference themes: 1) Investments in children and ECEC, 2) Inclusion for all children and each child in view of special needs and 3) How can long term development be supported by research?

Ministry Announcement: New Kindergarten to Grade 9 Curriculum Framework for feedback

Excerpt: "This focus on disciplinary thinking means that students will take part in actively building their own understanding of important concepts and topics. Social Studies covers many interesting topics with no agreed-upon answer, such as questions about the causes of major historical events or debates about which policy decisions government should make to address a societal problem. Using disciplinary thinking tools, students will learn to develop and support their own answers to these questions, as well as challenge the answers and information obtained through various sources."
