Biography

Celeste Kirsh is a white, cis, queer, settler on Turtle Island. She taught grades 5-8 English and Social Studies for 11 years before starting her PhD in the Curriculum and Pedagogy program (CTL) in 2021. She is a graduate of the Master of Teaching program at OISE (2010) and wrote her major research paper (MRP) on using spoken word poetry in the literacy classroom. Her PhD research explores the intersection of humanizing writing pedagogies, journalistic learning, digital composing and civic world-building. Celeste has been the host and producer of the Teaching Tomorrow podcast since 2018 where she interviews leaders in the world of education and shares innovative practices in the classroom. Celeste and her wife have two small boys (born in 2016 and 2020) and a lazy golden retriever. She loves coffee, running, The Muppets, and making food.
